NATIVE COUNSELLOR TRAINING PROGRAM - NCTP

NCTP has been in existence since 1977 and has graduated more than 450 First Nation Education Counsellors. You can earn a certificate in Counselling offered over a 3 year period 5 weeks per year held during the month of July and the first week in August. Certification is granted by the Ministry of Education.

Programs of study include:

• Native Issues
• School and Career Guidance
• Counselling Practicum and Theory
• Sociology of Native People
• Information Process/Career Planning
• Field Placement

NCTP Goals

• To be knowledgeable about the profession of counselling and competent in implementing culturally appropriate counselling techniques

• To provide opportunities for specialization in the techniques and processes of education counselling

• To be knowledgeable about theories of counselling, career development, various cultural teachings, academic and personal support.
